DP Adds Phone Verification

Posted on October 14th, 2009 in DigitaPointing by admin

DigitalPoint has recently added a new feature: telephone verification.

For $50/yr, an automated script will call you on the telephone give you a 4 digit PIN.  Once you enter this PIN on the web site, DP will mark your account as being phone verified.  This should help serious sellers differentiate themselves from both small-time vendors and scammers.

This is one good step in cleaning up the mess that the B/S/T forums have become.

Some DP members are worried because the system publishes their geographic location.  This should not be too much of a worry, because only a rough idea of your nearest telephone office can be published.

You can signup for phone verification here.

DigitalPoint Adds Paid Accounts

Posted on October 13th, 2009 in DigitaPointing by admin

Shawn has added a new option for DP members — paid accounts.

The new paid accounts come with a few privileges:

  • A new private forum
  • Storage of up to 5,000 PM’s
  • Storage of PM’s for up to six months
  • Bold usernames
  • Bold usertitles
  • Editable usernames
  • The ability to continue to have 4 signature links
  • Customizable user profile page
  • Automatic sticky-status for B/S/T threads during their first and last two hours
  • Special colors for threads in the B/S/T forums

This is a great start!  vBulletin has a lot more features that can be enabled for premium users, but this is a move in the right direction.

Unfortunately, this move was accompanied by a sudden restriction of “normal” forum users by reducing the number of links in their signatures from four to two.  This caused enormous troubles for people who had sold signature links and now cannot deliver what they had sold.  This is costing a lot of forum members significant amounts of time to renegotiate closed sales, as well as lost revenue from refunds and decreases future sales.

The costs of premium membership are:

  • 1 month – $25
  • 3 months – $50
  • 6 months – $75 ($80 if non-recurring)
  • 12 months – $125 ($130 if non-recurring)

The signup page is here.

If Shawn can sign up only 1,000 premium members, it will raise between $10k and $25k a month in revenue which can then be used to improve the forums.

DP Removes Revenue Sharing

Posted on August 26th, 2009 in DigitaPointing by will

Shawn recently opened the Revenue Sharing Maybe Going Away… thread to discuss turning off revenue sharing.

The concept was reasonably well received and has now been implemented.  Revenue sharing is gone from DP.

This change allows Shawn to experiment with new ad models to improve DP revenue.  More importantly, it reduces one of the incentives for people to spam the forum with large volumes of low-quality posts.

I think it’s a good move for DP, but only time will tell if I’m right.

DigitalPointing is Under New Management

Posted on August 25th, 2009 in DigitaPointing by will

Hello DigitalPointers!  Most of you know me as Will.Spencer from the DP Forums.  Some of you also know me as Will.Spencer from NetBuilders.

I’m a long-time DP member.  I was member 211 when I joined on 13 April, 2004.

I’ve been banned three times, so I know both sides of the fence at DP.

I’m a pretty serious SEO and webmaster, although I spend most of my DP time in the B/S/T forums these days.

I’m one of the admins at NetBuilders, and I spend more time there than at DP. With Shawn’s recent return, I expect that a lot of the long-term problems at DP will be resolved and it will once again become a fun place to hang out.

I feel pretty positive about the changes Shawn has made already and I’m anxious to see what he will roll out next.

Google and No follow tag

Posted on June 21st, 2009 in DigitaPointing by admin

Why should I keep quiet? Everyone in the blogosphere is talking about google and its latest announcement about no follow tags, links (whatever!). But something, we people didn’t knew is :-

["Google had taken that step an year ago !! None of us noticed ! We might not have noticed ever ! But we came to know about this when MattCutts told about this in his blog post about page rank sculpting!! --- "]

And, I don’t think there is any use in discussing and complaining about it. Yup, many are complaining about this – that – “why didn’t Google announced it earlier? ” – well, we didn’t even notice anything because of that change! Then why should we complain now??? Anyways, we at digitalpointing don’t have any complains. We were not using no-follow tags anywhere – and we were allowing pr juice to flow all over the site and to other sites equally!!!

Now, it is time, that we should learn something. Something that would benefit we webmasters. Matt did a good job by telling something about whats happening behind the scenes at Google. Before we discuss about what to do, let’s once again ( I know you guys have read numerous blog post regarding the new announcement by google,  anyways, just one more from us also) , read what’s the real Google Announcement about page rank sculpting and about use of No-follow tags for linking to pages.

If a page had 20 page rank points. And suppose it had 5 do follow links and 5 no follow links, then do you know how much PR juice the links with do follow tag get? Well, before that you must know something.

You should know how google calculates the PR juice. Well, one more thing that you should understand is :- links with no follow tags won’t get PR juice BUT they will affect the PR juice of do follow links – even though no follow links don’t get PR juice they will evoporate the PR juice that would have gone throught the do follow links.

Earlier, full PR juice used to go through do follow links – BUT now ( from the last year onwards ( we came to know about this only now) , PR juice won’t flow fully through the do follow links – if there are no follow links, then it will decrease the amount of PR juice that flows through do follow links – and that doesn’t mean some PR juice will flow through no-follow links – NO PR juice will flow throuhg no-follow links – BUT they will decrease or evaporate some PR juice that would have otherwise gone through do follow links!!!

So, what should webmasters do from now on:-

1- Nothing special! Just give importance on quality content. And as far as I know, Google gives importance to quality content than anything!

2- Link wherever you want- but keep in mind that you link to things that have something to do with your niche. That’s because google loves sites that link to quality sites related with their niche. So, don’t remove the comment section of your blog – let people who are related with your niche link to their website!

That’s it for now!

Make money flipping websites

Posted on June 7th, 2009 in DigitaPointing by admin

Making money by flipping websites is something similar to making money from real estates. Flipping websites can be treated as a flipping a virtual real estate. Here you are creating/buying a website and then selling it for profits. It is that easy, and I don’t wish to make it any tough by telling BS crap !

So, let’s get into …

First of all you should decide whether you are gonna create sites on your own or buying them from others? Well, if you are thinking of creating websites from scratch, then either you should have designing, and web programming skills or you should hire a freelancer.

Then you’ll have to bring traffic to the newly developed site. It is the toughest thing. And this is one of the factors that will decide the price of your website. I’ll be telling you how to bring in traffic in some other posts.

That’s it. You can then sell the site for profits !! Experts website flippers earn like 200-1500 % ROI (return over investment) or profit !!

With internet in your finger tips, why are you not bothering about these things, which are ought to learn! Can you think of a day without Ipod? I don’t think so.

Do you know the history of things that you use often?

Posted on May 31st, 2009 in DigitaPointing by admin

Ever took the pain of understanding how the things that you use daily in your life were invented? Don’t you think you should at least try to learn about the people who are behind the gadgets,  electronics equipments that we use daiy in our life? If they hadn’t took the pain of inventing it, do you think life would have been this easy and of fun? Well, I don’ t think so. Like me you also would be a big fan of Ipod. Recently, I came to know about the History of the iPod from one of the websites that I visit daily. I was shocked seeing some of the information about Ipod there. I didn’t know those things before.

One of the things that I use most is television. I can’t think of a day without television. The uses of it are many, as well all know. I know who invented it from my chilhood days. But till now I didn’t thought about knowing the History of Television. Why are we so? Are we so busy?

Ever worked with Databases?

Posted on May 30th, 2009 in DigitaPointing by admin

Have you ever worked with databases? If yes, then you’d be knowing the power of a database. A database is actually the backbone of a site. And if your website, doesn’t doesn’t have a database, then it’s a different case. Here I’m talking about Database Guides and Database Indexes – these are things which are easy to understand if you are willing to learn about it and use it in your website.

Well, indexes are something about which you will be learning at first when you start researching about databases. In each and every table, it is a good option to have an index. Indexes are something will allow us to program the site in a much better way, which otherwise wouldn’t have been possible that easily. So, it’s all about our efforts.  I’m saying that you must use databases and indexes in your website. But I’m trying to make you understand about the importance of Database indexes.

Ever came across a DocX file?

Posted on May 30th, 2009 in DigitaPointing by admin

Have you ever came across a DocX file? If you use internet for your daily needs like me, then you might have surely came across this format which is from Microsoft. There are a lot of users who use MS-Word for their day today needs. And the documents that they save are mostly in the docx format. Well, so if  you are not with Ms-Word, then how would you be able to read those documents that are in the docx formats?

I have come across such situations many times. Yup, that’s true. Even yesterday, I was looking for some info in a website, and I ultimately found what I was looking for. I got the link to the document and when downloaded it, I couldn’t access it. The reason was – it was in the docx format and the text editors with me couldn’t open it, neither I was having Ms-Word. So, is there a solution to this?  Is there a good Docx Converter ? Yeah, there is one. I have been trying to find one,  and at last I found one. It is the ultimate Docx Converter

Google updated PR

Posted on May 29th, 2009 in DigitaPointing by admin

Google updated page rank today!!! But, most of the webmasters and blogger out there didn’t notice it yet. I somehow noticed it, and it was just a fluke.

I was updating one of my other blogs and noticed its PR which jumped to PR 3 from PR 1. That time itself, I knew that digitalpointing’s PR would also have updated.

And the good news is that, the PR of this blog is now PR 2. Anyways, its a great thing, even though the PR had dropped from PR4 to PR 1 earlier. Ahh, there is no use of thinking about past.

So, digitalpointing has seen much improvement over the past few months (once the site started getting updated). So, we’ll be, from now on, bringing you some cool posts ranging from things happening at DP to things which will help you make money online over the internet.

That’s all for now. Do comment about the post if you liked it.

Are you a good blogger earning some money online ?

Posted on May 12th, 2009 in DigitaPointing by admin

I’m a big fan of Johnchow. He knows how to blog, at the same time make some money out of it. Hey, it’s not “some money” though !! He makes a lot !!! You won’t believe. So, what about ye? Do yo wanna make some kewl money online from your blogs? How about being a part time blogger? You don’t need to quit your job. Nor you would have have spend more than an hour daily.

The first thing about which you must worry is regarding “getting traffic to your blog”. Yup, this kick ass (I mean traffic) really fucks !!! Yeah, you’ll realize the value of traffic once your blog starts getting it. Then on, things will be really easy and fun. You won’t believe when I say now that – “You’ll be making a minimum of $ 1000 per month ” from just your blogs !!!

Get Prepared to do these things in your life from now on :-

—> Open notepad, and then create a new file. Go on typing topics line by line about which you can blog well. Let’s take my case itself. I’ll be entering the below topics :-

Making money online from blogs

How to be a good blogger?

How to bring traffic to your blogs?

Can twitter do any good to your blogs?

Where to place google ads in your blog?

How about buying signature links in forum?

How to increase backlinks to your blog?

Well, these would be the topics that I’d be entering in my notepad file. (I have already done that !!).

Okey, lets come back to it. After you have planned the topics that you can blog about well, it’s time to blog!!! You can blog in two ways.

1- Create about 10 entries a single day. BUT, keep in mind that you schedule the rest of the entries for the coming days. (DO THIS only if you are busy with your works and finds no time to blog daily). So, each day, your blog will be getting a new entry. It’s better to spend a whole day for this. So, you’d be thinking of doing this thing in the weekend right? That’s better.

2- If you have to time to blog daily, then try to post at least one daily. The more, the better. BUT, I don’t think it’s a good idea to blog more than 3 entries per day. Just bring up some good content every day in your blog. Quantity is not important here – BUT quality is the main factor that decides the success of your blog.

That’s about creating content in your blog !!!

Let’s move on to getting traffic.

—–> Try to be active at least in one community forum, or any such places like mylot, twitter, orkut, facebook etc. Your ultimate aim should be to make your blog popular among the mass, and try to get some really good daily visitors to your blog. So, it’s your job to bring in traffic that would come and visit your blog everyday.

In forums, they allow you to place link to your blog, in the signature section. So, try to post good responses to the different threads out there, and if someone likes your reply, sometimes, they might be interested in visiting your blog.

How about getting traffic from search engines??

Believe my words. There is no other way to get traffic naturally other than from search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN etc. Search engines loves quality content that you write for your visitors. These days, search engines are intelligent than humans, they knows how to differentiate a crap blog and a good one. So, try to be a good blogger. And you’ll be soon getting traffic from search engines like Google.

Let me share our experience with google. Digitalpointing.com get’s most of it’s traffic from Google. Yeah, that’s true. And we do no type of advertising or any link building or any such things. Actually we don’t find time to promote digitalpointing. But, still we get traffic – and that’s because of two reasons. Firstly, digitalpointing is ranked high in Google, and thus we get traffic from google daily!!!! And the number ranges from 200-500 daily. Well, I think that is a good number for digitalpointing for now. And the second way by which we get traffic is from “word of mouth”. Yup, most of the visitors, who come to our site – likes the content published in the site, and tells about this cool blog to their friends. And this way, digitalpointing.com get’s bookmarked in sites like digg, del.icio.us, etc by most of the visitors. This way, we get traffic everyday, without doing any promotions whatsoever!!! This is how we were dealing with things till, now.

——> Configure your site using google Analytics, and google webmater tools. (We’ll be bringing a good post regarding this topic soon)

—-> Put adsense code in the right place (there’ll be a post coming soon in this topics as well)

—-> Try selling links in your blog after your blog starts getting decent traffic. This way, by selling 5 link spots, you may get around $ 200 or so, if you get some decent traffic. Let’s discuss this thing taking example of digitalpointing.com

We are getting decent traffic from google and through other ways like from digg, DP etc. And this way, we get like 200 unique visits daily. And the average unique hits that digitalpointing gets per month is around 6000. This is a good number and hence by selling links we’d be able to make like some real money online. We’d be able to sell one link spot for (at least) $50 per month!! And by selling 5 spots (it’s not a good idea to sell more than that) we’d be able to make like $250 per month !!! So, that’s about making money selling links. (we’ll be coming with a detailed post in this regard soon …)

…. okies, that’s for now. Keep, posting your comments. This is how we come to know how you feel about the posts.

Thanks for reading. See you with a good thrilling post next time.

Cheers :)
