I’ve seen this question asked a lot of times so I’m going to take it upon myself to answer it.
I’m not sure about the exact date but the main site, Digital Point Solutions, was started in 1995.
The forums were created March 3, 2004.

This is starting to make me happy/mad.
I’m happy that Digital Point is getting theirs and that I have more material to write about, etc. etc but seriously, it’s the same crap over and over again.
“DP Down”, “DP Down Again”, “DP Down Once More” and so on and so forth.
Anyway, I’m sure it all has to do with this. So read up and maybe you’ll get a little inkling of what’s going on.

Straight from the horses mouth:
I just got back from the data center where the servers are at (I needed to replace a failed hard drive). The raid mirror for that server is currently replicating itself to that drive, and sometime after it’s done (not sure how long it will take), I’m going to take the forum down for 10-15 minutes to upgrade MySQL for the database server cluster. I’m also do a hard reset of all the slave database servers (more or less means that I need to copy about 20GB worth of databases to a bunch of different machines [should take about 5 minutes over gigabit ethernet]).
This hopefully will make everyone’s private messages show up that are missing from some database issues a few days ago.
Still hasn’t happened…
Something is not right with one of the servers, the raid rebuild is *still* going on… hmmm…
8 servers are used for the forum. 4 web servers, 4 database servers. For the last week the forum has been running on 3 database servers until the issue with the other one can be resolved.

Selling A DP Account is against Digital Point’s TOS yet a lot of people seem to do it, especially on v7n.
I wonder what the going rate is…
v7n doesn’t seem to handle it very well though. They say it’s against DP’s TOS and let it be known that the owner is a member of v7n, expecting them to be scared or something.
It’s not like Shawn posts there a lot though, right? He barely posts on his own forum.

When going to the Digital Point Forums, you may notice a little error in the header:
“Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘{‘ in /home/sites/forums.digitalpoint.com/web/global.php on line 24″
Don’t worry. This type of error only happens when an upgrade or something else(small) is going on.
The error will be gone and everything will be back to normal shortly.

It works alright so far.
The PM system seems to be working fine. When I click “Reply” in a thread, I can actually reply.
Lets hope this doesn’t happen again, but if it does, lets hope it gets fixed quicker.

What the hell is going on with Digital Point? I get back from a 10 day ban and now it has numerous amounts of problems.
At first I couldn’t get my PMs and now I can but when I try to reply to them, they don’t exist.
I search for new posts and it brings me all the new posts…from yesterday.
Luckily I found a better place to hang out in between projects.

I’m still on the second page for “digital point” but I’m still pretty happy for ranking 10th for “digitalpoint“.

That’s alright though. With Digital Point down, it gives me a chance to visit the other sites I’ve been neglecting.:)

Yes, DP is experiencing some downtime.
They’ve been down for about 45 minutes so far. Hopefully they’ll come back soon.
This is the second time this month that this has happened.
Last time it took all day or it to come back 100%, I hope we don’t have a repeat of that.
